Fatal Car Accidents in California
In 2021, around 4161 people died as a result of fatal car crashes in the state of California. These numbers have remained relatively steady over the past few years, despite advances in safety technology and education campaigns about the dangers of drunk and distracted driving. We see many people lose their lives as a result of accidents that take place due to negligent motorists.
The leading factor in fatal car crashes in California is driver error. Driver error includes:
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Distracted driving
- Fatigued driving
- Reckless driving
After losing a loved one due to a fatal car accident, you may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the person who is responsible. First, only certain family members may bring a wrongful death claim. These include the deceased person's spouse, child, or parent. If none of these relatives exist, then a grandparent or sibling may file the claim.
Second, the death must have been caused by someone else's negligence. This means that the other driver was not driving carefully and caused the accident that led to your loved one's death.
Third, you must be able to prove that your loved one's death has resulted in financial damages. This could include funeral and burial expenses, loss of income, and medical bills.
If you believe that you meet these criteria, then you should contact an experienced Riverside wrongful death attorney who can help you through the process of filing a wrongful death case against the responsible party.
No one should have to suffer the loss of a loved one due to someone else's negligence.
