Pomona, CA - Driver Killed After Tire From Truck Crashes Through Windshield On 60 Fwy
Pomona, CA (August 11, 2025) – Early Monday morning, August 11, a horrific accident on the eastbound lanes of the 60 Freeway near the Gary Avenue off-ramp claimed the life of a driver. According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just before 2:30 a.m. when a truck traveling westbound lost a tire. The tire became airborne, crossed into the eastbound lanes, and slammed into the windshield of a white Lexus sedan.
The force of the impact shattered the windshield and caused part of the vehicle’s roof to collapse. The driver of the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not yet been released. Authorities closed all eastbound lanes by 2:40 a.m. and issued a SigAlert at 3:15 a.m. By 4:00 a.m., all lanes except for the slow lane were reopened to traffic.
Investigators are still determining what led to the truck losing its tire and whether the truck driver remained at the scene. The collision caused significant delays for early morning commuters as law enforcement worked to collect evidence and clear debris from the freeway.
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.
Wrongful Death Accidents in California
Wrongful death incidents in California occur when a person loses their life due to another party’s negligence or misconduct. In 2023, the state reported thousands of fatal vehicle collisions, many involving commercial trucks and large vehicles. Families of victims often face emotional trauma, financial strain, and unanswered questions.
When looking at the impact of these accidents, it’s important to understand some common contributing factors:
- Mechanical Failures: Problems such as brake malfunctions or tire blowouts can cause drivers to lose control, leading to severe or fatal crashes.
- Driver Negligence: Distracted driving, impairment, and speeding often play a role in collisions that result in fatalities.
- Poor Vehicle Maintenance: Commercial trucks require regular inspections; neglecting this can result in dangerous mechanical failures.
- Hazardous Road Conditions: Potholes, debris, or inadequate lighting can increase the risk of deadly crashes, particularly at high speeds.
- Improper Cargo Loading: Overloaded or unbalanced cargo can affect a truck’s stability, causing loss of control.
