Malibu, CA – Four Killed in Multi-Vehicle Wreck on Pacific Coast Highway
Malibu, CA (October 19, 2023) – A major automobile collision was reported on Tuesday evening in the Malibu area that claimed the lives of four students from Pepperdine University.
On October 17, the California Highway Patrol was called to the scene of an accident on the Pacific Coast Highway.
Official reports indicate that multiple vehicles collided in the 21,600 block of the highway in an area that is often referred to as “Dead Man’s Curve.” The incident blocked several lanes of the road, prompting authorities to shut down the highway for an extended period while removing the damaged vehicles.
Four women were fatally injured as a result of the incident. The victims, identified as Asha Weir, Niamh Rolston, Deslyn Williams, and Peyton Stewart, who were all 20 years old, were pronounced deceased as a result of their injuries.
Investigations determined that all four victims were walking or standing near the roadway when they were struck by a vehicle.
A 22-year-old man involved in the accident was arrested. However, no further details were provided.
At this time, the incident is being investigated.
Our condolences go out to the families of Asha Weir, Niamh Rolston, Deslyn Williams, and Peyton Stewart at this time.
Fatal Car Accidents in California
In 2022, more than 1100 pedestrians lost their lives as a result of pedestrian accidents that took place in California. This total amount represents nearly one-quarter of all traffic-related fatalities in our state. In the last three years alone, the number of fatal pedestrian accidents has increased by approximately 10 percent. Over the past decade, this number has increased 77 percent statewide.
The unfortunate truth is that pedestrians remain more vulnerable during accidents and other victims involved. Despite laws that our state has in place to protect pedestrians, we continue to see them hurt or lose their lives as a result of driver negligence.
