Car Accidents in California
Every year, thousands of people across the Los Angeles area are left injured as a result of motor vehicle accidents. Quite often, these accidents are caused by drivers who engage in acts of negligence and carelessness while behind the wheel. Some leading causes of crashes that we see here in the state of California include:
- Distracted driving: With the ubiquity of smartphones and other devices, it's no wonder that distracted driving is on the rise.
- Drunk driving: Drinking and driving is always a dangerous combination, and it's one of the leading causes of car accidents in California.
- Speeding: Speed kills, and that's especially true on California's roads. Every year, thousands of people are hurt or killed as a result of drivers who are speeding while behind the wheel.
- Weather conditions: California's weather is notoriously unpredictable, and that can make driving conditions treacherous. Heavy fog, rain, and other dangerous weather can have devastating consequences for drivers.
If you have been hurt as a result of a motor vehicle accident, you may be able to pursue legal action. In California, there are several types of damages that you can recover from following an accident. These include:
- Medical expenses: If you incur any medical expenses as a result of the car crash, you can recover those damages. This includes things like ambulance fees, hospital bills, and any ongoing treatment costs.
- Pain and suffering: In addition to medical expenses, you can also recover damages for pain and suffering. This is non-economic damage, which means it's not easy to put a monetary value on it. However, a jury will typically consider things like the severity of your injuries, how long you suffered, and whether you'll have any long-term effects from the crash.
- Lost wages: If the car crash prevented you from working, you can recover your lost wages. This includes both the wages you would have earned during the time you were out of work, as well as any future lost earnings if your injuries prevent you from returning to work or from working at the same level as before.
