Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in California
Fatal accidents continue to take the lives of thousands of people in California each year. Unfortunately, we see many pedestrians lose their lives as a result of traffic incidents. There are various factors that lead to these accidents taking place. Some leading causes include:
- Driving too fast for the conditions: When weather conditions make it difficult to see or stay in control of your vehicle, driving too fast can become a dangerous temptation. Driving too fast within a posted speed limit can also lead to an accident.
- Making poor lane changes: Changing lanes quickly and without enough caution can confuse and distract you from the road ahead. This can lead to an accident if you don't have enough space to make a safe change of course.
- Failing to yield to other drivers: Yielding to other drivers and pedestrians at intersections and when turning corners is important not only for your safety but also for the safety of other drivers on the road. If you don't yield, you could end up causing an accident.
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs: Driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs is a major safety hazard not only for you but also for other drivers on the road.
- Inattention: Focusing on your phone or other activities instead of the road can lead to an accident.
- Distracted driving: Driving while using a handheld phone, talking on the phone, reading a text message, or doing any other task that takes your attention off the road is dangerous and illegal.
- Not slowing down for pedestrians and cyclists: When you see a pedestrian or cyclist ahead, it's important to slow down and give them plenty of room. If you don't slow down, you could end up causing an accident.
