Pedestrian Accidents in California
Pedestrian accidents are the cause of thousands of injuries every year in California. Unfortunately, many victims are left with severe injuries as a result of these crashes. There are several types of injuries that pedestrians are left with every year as a result of these crashes.
Whiplash is a common neck injury that occurs when the head is suddenly jerked forward and then backward. This can result in range in motion limitations and pain and suffering.
Broken bones are another common injury from car accidents. This can happen when the force of the impact is too much for the bone to handle, causing it to break or fracture. Concussions and traumatic brain injuries can also occur in car accidents, especially if the head is hit by something during the collision.
In most cases, pedestrians are left with serious injuries as a result of driver negligence. Some of the leading causes of crashes that we see in our state include:
Distracted driving. With so many things competing for our attention these days, it's no wonder that distracted driving is on the rise. Whether it's a cell phone, a GPS, or something else, taking your eyes off the road even for a second can lead to an accident.
Driving under the influence. This one should come as no surprise. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is extremely dangerous and puts everyone on the road at risk.
Speeding. Again, this is something that can be easily avoided, but people still do it every day. Speeding makes it harder to stop in time if something unexpected happens and also increases the severity of an accident if one does occur.
Weather conditions. Californians are used to sunny weather, but that doesn't mean that other weather conditions can't cause problems on the roads. Rain, snow, and ice can all make driving conditions more difficult and lead to accidents.
Road conditions. Poorly maintained roads can also lead to accidents. Potholes, debris, and other hazards can cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles and crash.
