Pedestrian Accidents in California
In California, car accidents are a leading cause of injury and death. Every year, thousands of Californians are killed and injured in car collisions. While some accidents are caused by careless or reckless driving, many are the result of driver error or poor road conditions.
Unfortunately, pedestrians are often harmed as a result of vehicle collisions. Drivers who fail to maintain their vehicles in a safe and respectable manner continue to cause harm to innocent people sharing the road. Year after year, thousands of people are hospitalized as a result of pedestrian crashes in the state. Even though we have numerous laws in place to protect them, we continue to see them harmed.
If you've been involved in a pedestrian accident, it's important to know what to do afterward. First, you will want to seek medical attention to determine the type and severity of your injuries. Then, exchange insurance information with the driver and file a police report. Once you have all of the necessary documentation, you can begin the process of filing a legal claim.
It's also a good idea to learn about the state's laws on car accidents. For example, California is a "fault" state when it comes to auto collisions. This means that the driver who is responsible for causing an accident is liable for the damages. However, there are some exceptions to this rule. If you're not sure whether you have a case, it's best to speak with a skilled Los Angeles pedestrian accident lawyer who can evaluate your situation and advise you on your legal options.
