Car Accidents in California
Each year, thousands of people are hurt in auto accidents across the state of California. Not only are they left to deal with overwhelming physical and emotional consequences, but financial impacts as well. When injured parties are harmed in crashes due to negligent drivers, they may be able to file a legal claim against the responsible driver for damages.
Car accident victims in California can recover damages for both economic and noneconomic losses. Some of the most common damages recovered by accident victims include:
Medical Bills: Victims of car accidents can recover the cost of all reasonably necessary medical treatment, including ambulance services, hospitalization, surgery, and rehabilitation. They can also recover the cost of any future medical treatment that is reasonably likely to be needed as a result of the accident.
Lost Wages: If an accident victim is unable to work because of their injuries, they can recover their lost wages. This includes not only the wages they would have earned had they been able to work, but also any bonuses or commissions they would have earned. It may also include the value of any vacation time or other benefits that were lost as a result of being unable to work. If an accident victim is able to return to work but at a lower salary than before the accident, they can recover the difference between their old salary and their new one.
Pain and Suffering: Car accident victims in California can recover damages for physical pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of enjoyment of life that resulted from the accident. These types of damages are typically more difficult to quantify than economic damages like medical bills and lost wages, but they can still be significant.
Property Damage: Victims of car accidents can recover the cost of repairing or replacing any property that was damaged in the accident. This includes damage to the victim's vehicle as well as any personal belongings that were damaged or destroyed in the accident.
