Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in California
Fatal pedestrian accidents take the lives of hundreds of people in California annually. Several factors contribute to the number of fatal pedestrian accidents that take place in our state. Common factors include:
- Lack of protection: Pedestrians are not inside steel frames like the people inside vehicles. They are exposed and vulnerable to direct impact, which increases the likelihood of sustaining severe injuries.
- Size and visibility: Pedestrians are generally smaller and less visible than the vehicles that are on the road. This can make it harder for drivers to see them, especially in inclement weather conditions or at night, leading to a higher risk of collisions.
- Speed: Vehicles are often much larger and faster than pedestrians. When a collision occurs, the speed and force differentials can significantly injure pedestrians.
