Fatal Car Accidents in California
Crashes in the state of California claimed the lives of over 3,800 people in 2021. These incidents continue to happen at an alarming rate. Regrettably, many accidents are a result of driver actions.
Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of car crashes and is responsible for a significant amount of car accident fatalities. Distractions can include anything from eating or drinking to using a cell phone or other devices while driving.
Driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol is another major cause of car accidents. If you are driving while impaired, the best way to avoid a crash is to abstain from driving. If you have been drinking, it is important to drink responsibly and drive with caution.
Speed also plays a major role in fatal auto accidents. Speeding causes a significant number of fatalities each year in the state of California. Given the fact that speeding increases the risk of a person being involved in an accident, it is no surprise that speeding drivers cause more severe accidents as well.
Failing to obey traffic laws is another major contributor to fatal crashes in our state. Traffic laws are designed to keep everyone safe on the road. Obeying traffic laws includes obeying all posted signs, signals, and markings, wearing a seatbelt, and driving at a safe speed. When drivers fail to act responsibly, it can have severe consequences.
