Pedestrian Accidents in California
Pedestrian accidents take place every day in the state of California. There are many instances where people are left with severe injuries as a result of these accidents. Many pedestrian accidents take place due to negligence.
Distracted driving is a leading cause of pedestrian crashes here in California. Drivers who are texting, talking on the phone, or otherwise not paying attention to the road are a danger to everyone around them. Pedestrians are especially vulnerable because they are often not visible to distracted drivers.
Speeding is another major cause of pedestrian fatalities. Drivers who are speeding are less likely to be able to stop in time if a pedestrian comes into their path. They are also more likely to lose control of their vehicle if they hit a pedestrian at high speed.
Drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians have also caused many serious accidents. California law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians when they are crossing at a crosswalk or other designated crossing area. However, many drivers do not follow this law and instead try to speed through crossings, endangering pedestrians in the process.
Unfortunately, when small children are involved in these accidents, the severity of injuries is typically increased. We see countless young children live with traumatic brain injuries, broken bones, and other severe injuries as a result of these collisions each year. If you’ve been injured as a result of a pedestrian accident, you may be able to seek financial compensation for your medical expenses and other damages you face.
