Wrongful Death Accidents in California
Losing a family member in a vehicle accident is a life-altering tragedy. In California, fatal crashes take the lives of thousands every year, many of them caused by impaired or reckless drivers. These heartbreaking losses leave families mourning while also facing overwhelming financial and emotional challenges.
In the aftermath of a fatal accident, here are some important things families should know:
Wrongful Death Compensation: Survivors may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, future lost income, and the emotional pain of losing a loved one.
Statute of Limitations: In California, families typically have two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death claim.
Proving Negligence: Evidence such as surveillance footage, witness statements, and toxicology reports are critical to showing fault in DUI and fatal crash cases.
Use of Police Reports: Official records help confirm key facts, such as the presence of drugs or alcohol, driver behavior, and road conditions.
Family Resources: Grief and trauma support groups are available to help families deal with emotional distress and recovery.
