Long Beach, CA – One Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Shoreline Dr near Aquarium Way
Long Beach, CA (October 16, 2023) – A pedestrian has lost her life as a result of an accident that occurred on Saturday evening in the Long Beach area.
On October 14, the Long Beach Police Department was notified that they were needed at the scene of a crash that occurred on Shoreline Drive at around 6:30 p.m.
Reports show that a driver was traveling the wrong way through the intersection of Shoreline Drive and Aquarium Way during the evening hours. For reasons unknown, the Chevrolet Bolt, which was traveling eastbound on the roadway, went through a red light and crashed into multiple pedestrians, who were utilizing the crosswalk. The vehicle then proceeded forward and struck multiple vehicles.
Multiple pedestrians were injured due to the crash. The victims were all transported to area hospitals for emergency care.
Authorities confirmed that one of the pedestrians, 60-year-old Romelia Cuarenta Aguilar, died from her injuries while at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 46-year-old Khalid Yagobbi of Los Angeles, California, was treated at a local hospital and booked in the Long Beach City Jail, where he faces murder charges.
The incident is currently being investigated by the homicide detectives with the Long Beach Police Department.
