Long Beach, CA - Woman Fatally Struck on Atlantic Ave
Long Beach, CA (August 4, 2025) – A pedestrian accident claimed the life of a woman in Long Beach on the night of August 1. The fatal incident took place at approximately 9 p.m. near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and 36th Street.
Authorities with the Los Angeles Police Department reported that the driver of a southbound vehicle struck the woman as she was crossing the road. Long Beach Police officers arrived shortly after the crash and found the victim unresponsive in the roadway. Emergency crews pronounced her dead at the scene.
While her identity has not yet been released, investigators say the driver involved stayed at the location and cooperated with law enforcement. Based on preliminary findings, officers do not believe that speed, intoxication, or distracted driving were factors in the incident. The area was temporarily blocked off as investigators conducted interviews and collected evidence. Investigations are ongoing at this time.
We hope those affected by this tragic accident find comfort during this time.
Pedestrian Accidents in California
Pedestrian crashes in California have increased over the past decade, with many resulting in serious or fatal injuries. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, thousands of pedestrians are hurt or killed on city streets each year. California continues to rank among the highest states in pedestrian deaths. These incidents often involve crosswalks, intersections, or poorly lit roadways.
When someone is injured while walking, there are key factors that are often explored in legal and medical investigations. Below are some commonly seen injuries in pedestrian accidents:
Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): Pedestrians often suffer head injuries from impact with the vehicle or pavement. TBIs can range from concussions to more serious long-term cognitive impairments.
Broken Bones: It is common for pedestrians to suffer fractures in their arms, legs, ribs, or hips due to the force of impact. Recovery time can vary and often includes surgery and rehabilitation.
Spinal Cord Injuries: Some victims experience damage to the spinal cord, potentially leading to partial or full paralysis. These cases typically involve long-term care and significant medical costs.
Internal Organ Damage: The sudden trauma of being hit by a car can lead to internal bleeding or organ rupture, which often requires emergency intervention.
