Los Angeles, CA - Metro Buses Collide on Grand Ave
Los Angeles, CA (August 21, 2025) – A collision involving two Metro buses and a third vehicle sent three people to local hospitals Wednesday, August 20, in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. The incident occurred at approximately 4:17 p.m. on the 100 block of South Grand Avenue, near First Street, drawing a rapid emergency response from fire and medical personnel.
One of the buses reportedly jumped the sidewalk, injuring a 52-year-old female passenger. She was taken to a nearby hospital and is currently in fair condition, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Lyndsey Lantz. In total, three individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries requiring hospital care, while other passengers were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the crash and working to determine how the chain of events unfolded.
MTA representative Jose Ubaldo confirmed the buses were both in service when the incident occurred, but the exact circumstances that led to the collision remain unclear. The third vehicle’s involvement has not yet been detailed publicly. Investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department are continuing to gather information and review video surveillance as part of their ongoing efforts.
We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.
Bus Accidents in California
California's massive transit system moves millions of residents and visitors each day, yet accidents involving public transportation continue to affect many lives. The state ranks among the highest in the nation for transit-related incidents, including those involving city buses, light rail, and commuter systems. With dense traffic, driver error, and mechanical issues all contributing to crashes, it's no surprise that injury numbers remain a concern.
When it comes to common injuries from bus accidents, the physical and emotional toll can be wide-ranging. Passengers often suffer head injuries due to sudden stops, falls, or collisions—particularly when seat belts aren’t available. Even a seemingly minor bump can result in a concussion or long-term brain trauma. Back and spinal cord injuries are also frequent, with crash impacts causing slipped discs, nerve damage, or lasting mobility issues. Cuts and bruises may seem superficial at first, but they can indicate deeper underlying trauma or lead to infection without proper care. Lastly, many victims report experiencing psychological effects like anxiety, fear of commuting, or sleep disturbances. Emotional injuries may not always be visible, but they’re just as valid and often require therapy or counseling to fully address.
